Day Six

By Nick

Another fine day. (For how much longer can this last, we wonder.)

Like on day two, we re-joined the footpath this morning a little further along the river than we left it yesterday afternoon, but that's okay, because like on day one, we had to walk a little way to our B&B, so no mileage has been shirked.

When Juli and I first returned, together, to the UK having met on our previous travels, we lodged with Juli's best friend, Marion in Cookham. It was lovely to revisit there and Boulter's Lock, to where I would sometimes bring sandwiches (plus Rowan the dog) and meet Juli for lunch when she was subbing at a nearby independent school.

The island between the lock and the wear at Boulters Lock is quite large and includes some homes, a small park and a cafe. We had elevenses here and bought sandwiches for later, which turned out to be somewhere along the newly upgraded Dorney Lake, Olympic rowing course, just about within sight of Windsor Castle.

We got a much better view of the castle once we were past the Royal Windsor Racecourse, and an even better one from Windsor Bridge, our day 6 finish line. We found a teashop to our liking on the other end of the bridge, where we were joined by Johnny from the truck, who, after a cup of tea there and a drink in Brown's, very kindly drove us all the way back to Staines.

Tomorrow, we'll take the train back to Windsor, then continue on foot to Shepperton Lock, some 13 or so miles downstream.
